Colonia High School’s JV Baseball team fell to Monroe on Wednesday April 6, 2016 with a score of 2-8.
Colonia’s team includes Juniors, Christopher McCabe #13 (right field), Charles Tavormina #8 (third base), Jarred Ruiz #42 (pitcher) and Sophomores, Matthew Zawacki #7 (center field), Matthew Allardice #14 (left field), Jason Hilenski #44 (pitcher), Corey Comi #10 (catcher), Stephen Craccihiolo #5 (first base), John Rodriguez #6 (pitcher), Paul Johnson #22 (shortstop), Joseph Pierce #4 (second base), Nicholas Michael #15 (pinch runner).
Monroe Township High school arrived to the baseball field located at Colonia Middle school forty-five minutes late which gave the game a late start. Monroe is known for its incredible athletic programs, so it was sure to be some great competition.

The game began with Jason “Big Red’ Hilenski pitching for the patriots. After getting a quick three outs on Monroe, Colonia was up to bat. Zawacki and Allardice struck out and left it to McCabe’s ground out to get a player on base. Hilenski was up to bat, with an overthrow to first base McCabe stole to second. Walked by Monroe’s starting pitcher, Kevin Maiolo, Hilenski was on first. Two outs with Tavormina up to bat. After getting hit with a wild pitch the bases were now loaded. Comi was walked sending in a run. Cracchiolo hit a grounder to first and got the third out for Colonia.
After letting four runs in, Colonia came back with one. Colonia was down by 2 in the end of the second inning. Colonia came back by striking out the first three batters but Monroe held them at two runs. By the fifth inning Monroe was up by 4 with 6 runs. Colonia was unable to come back in the fifth inning. The game ended with a score of 8-2 Monroe.
Although it was a loss for Colonia it was a strong fight for our team.
